Which shower cubicle size should you choose?
Choose shower cubicle sizes by checking the outside footprint, the space inside and the way you enter. Aeros offers selected models in 800 × 800, 900 × 900 and 1000 × 1000 mm, plus rectangular 1200 × 900 mm cubicles. The right choice must fit both your room and the people using it.
A shower can fit into a corner yet still feel awkward if the doorway faces a vanity. A larger tray may feel better inside but leave too little room beside the toilet. That is why a tape measure and a simple floor plan are better starting points than a product photo.
This guide helps you compare sizes before choosing a model. Every Aeros option brings its own base and enclosure, with grout-free internal surfaces. You can choose the footprint that suits your home without giving up that everyday benefit.
Aeros shower cubicle sizes at a glance
The figures below are external dimensions, not the clear space available for standing. Frames, panels, fittings and the shape of the tray affect the room inside. These are product sizes, not a statement about a legal minimum bathroom size.
| External size | Where to start | Main point to check |
|---|---|---|
| 800 × 800 mm | Compact basic square or round models | Whether the internal space and entry suit the user |
| 900 × 900 mm | Square and round options, including basic and deluxe ranges | The balance between shower room and bathroom access |
| 1000 × 1000 mm | Larger square and round options | Whether the extra width and depth leave a clear approach |
| 1200 × 900 mm | 5000 basic or 15000 deluxe rectangular models | Space for the wider front and its entry position |
For current model details, start with the Aeros shower cubicle range. A size shown in the range does not mean every model comes in that size. Check the selected variation before ordering.

Is an 800 or 900 mm shower right for you?
An 800 mm cubicle uses a smaller footprint; a 900 mm model gives more room within the same model family. Neither is automatically the best choice for every small bathroom.
The basic 3000 square front-entry, 4000 square corner-entry and 11000 round corner-entry ranges include an 800 × 800 mm option. These can help when the available corner is tight. You still need room to approach the door, turn and wash comfortably.
Moving from 800 to 900 mm adds 100 mm to both external dimensions. Mark both outlines on the floor. Check what the larger outline does to your walking path, cupboard doors and toilet access.
A 900 × 900 mm shower may offer a useful middle choice, but comfort depends on body size, fittings and the door opening. Ask for the clear entry and internal measurements of your chosen model. Floor tape helps test the room layout; it cannot show the exact space inside the finished shower.
When should you consider 1000 mm or 1200 × 900 mm?
Consider a larger cubicle when it adds useful showering room without crowding the rest of the bathroom. Start with the space you can spare, then compare the shape.
A 1000 × 1000 mm square model adds width and depth compared with a 900 mm square. That can be useful if you find a smaller shower cramped. Check that the extra depth does not push the entrance too close to another fixture.
A 1200 × 900 mm rectangle is wider and less deep than a 1000 mm square. This may suit a room with more available wall length than depth. The 5000 Series guide explains the basic rectangular option; the 15000 adds deluxe fittings in the same external size.
Do not choose on floor area alone. A rectangle, square and curved tray feel different. Storage baskets and shower controls also take up space. Think about how you stand, turn and reach for soap, rather than choosing the largest number on the page.
Check the shape and door opening as well as the size
Two showers with the same stated width can use the room differently. A round-corner model curves away from the outer corner. A square model retains that corner inside the shower.
The rounded Aeros 11000 and 12000 can leave more floor space outside the front curve than a square model of the same nominal size. The trade-off is less internal showering space. The 11000 Series guide shows its layout.
Front entry works when there is a clear approach to the front face. Corner entry may work better where a vanity or toilet affects that approach. Aeros sliding doors stay within the enclosure, so they do not need an outward door-swing area.
You still need a usable space outside the opening. Ask for the actual clear opening with the doors fully open. A 900 mm cubicle does not have a 900 mm doorway. Avoid guessing the opening from a photo or dividing the tray width in half.
How to measure your bathroom before ordering
Measure the finished space and record anything that projects into it. Use millimetres throughout so that numbers are easy to compare.
- Draw the room. Mark the bathroom door, toilet, vanity, windows and any appliances.
- Measure width and depth. Check at floor level and higher up. Record skirting, pipes, ledges and walls that are not straight.
- Mark the proposed shower. Use removable tape to show its outside footprint and intended entry.
- Open nearby doors. Test the bathroom door, drawers and cupboards against the marked area.
- Check the approach. Make sure the people using the room can reach the shower without squeezing around fixtures.
- Record height and services. Note the lowest ceiling point, water supplies and possible waste route.
- Photograph the space. Include wide views and close-ups of any tight spots for Aeros and your installer.
If tiles, flooring or wall linings will change, ask the installer to confirm the expected finished dimensions. An empty recess measured during demolition is not the finished opening.
Do not order a cubicle solely because its stated width exactly matches the gap. Assembly, plumbing and service access may need more room. Confirm those allowances for the exact model.

Allow for height, assembly space and the entry step
Floor size is only one part of the fit. Current Aeros guides specify a minimum installation height of 2150 mm. The adjustable rainfall arm gives an approximate overall height range of 2150–2290 mm.
Measure beneath beams, sloping ceilings, lights and fans. Ask about the working space needed to move the panels into place. A finished unit fitting below a ceiling does not prove there is enough room to assemble it.
The checked Aeros models list a 220 mm base-entry height. Consider that step separately from the amount of standing space inside. Choosing a wider model does not remove the step.
Where step-free access is needed, have the design assessed before buying. The ABCB Livable Housing Design Standard includes a hobless, step-free shower requirement where its relevant provisions apply. Your building professional should confirm the rules for your location and project.
A raised-tray cubicle should not be presented as a step-free shower. A suitable purpose-designed alternative may be the better choice for that need.
Confirm plumbing and delivery before choosing the final size
A shower that fits the room must also have a workable connection plan. Give the plumber the exact model and its technical drawing before fixing the position.
Aeros supplies a horizontal waste outlet, but the route to the building’s drainage still needs checking. A larger shower may place the waste differently from the old one. Do not assume that an existing floor outlet will line up.
The plumber should also confirm the water-supply route and access to connection points. The cubicle includes its shower components; the complete installation may need extra fittings, preparation and labour.
Check how the cartons and panels will reach the bathroom. Measure narrow doorways, stair turns and lift access. A flat-pack shower still contains large, fragile parts.
For a second shower in a laundry, use our laundry bathroom combo guide for the separate connection and room-planning questions. Settle those details before buying around a floor measurement alone.
Keep the grout-free benefits while choosing a practical size
You do not need the largest or most expensive model to get a grout-free Aeros enclosure. The basic models also provide their own wall panels and reinforced acrylic base.
That removes tiled grout joints from inside the cubicle. There is no enclosure grout to scrub or regrout. Glass, tracks, fittings and the base still need regular care, but you can leave grout maintenance out of that routine.
The clip-lock frame assembles without screws, glue or silicone. This describes the enclosure assembly; plumbing connections and other site work use the materials the installer specifies.
For a suitable room, the complete enclosure can also avoid constructing new tiled shower walls. Compare the full installation scope with a tiled alternative. Custom tiled showers offer more freedom in dimensions and can be designed for level access, while Aeros gives you a defined package and grout-free internal surfaces.
If repeated grout repairs prompted your search, read our shower regrouting cost and repair guide. Then choose the replacement size around daily use, not only the old shower’s footprint.
Use a simple checklist to make your shortlist
Choose size and entry first, then decide which fittings you want. This keeps an attractive feature from distracting you from a poor fit.
| Check | Write down before ordering |
|---|---|
| Available room | Finished width, depth and lowest clear height |
| Everyday use | Who uses it and whether the entry step suits them |
| Door access | Entry position, clear opening and nearby obstructions |
| Installation | Assembly space, water route, waste route and service access |
| Delivery | Carton route, tight turns and safe handling arrangements |
| Model choice | Exact series, size variation and included fittings |
The 3000 and 4000 basic square ranges include 800, 900 and 1000 mm sizes. The current 13000 and 14000 deluxe square ranges list 900 and 1000 mm. For round models, the 11000 includes all three sizes, while the 12000 lists 900 and 1000 mm.
Use the current product listing to confirm availability. Basic and deluxe describe the fitting package, not whether the shower will fit your room.
Shower cubicle size FAQs
What is the standard shower cubicle size in Australia?
There is no single product size that suits every home. The Aeros range includes selected 800, 900 and 1000 mm square or round options, plus 1200 × 900 mm rectangles. A listed product size does not establish the building requirements for your project.
Is a 900 × 900 mm shower big enough?
It may suit you, but check the internal space, fittings and clear door opening. Those differ between designs. Compare it with the next size up where the room allows, and consider everyone who will use the shower.
Is an 800 mm shower too small?
It is the smallest footprint in the basic Aeros ranges discussed here. It may help in a tight room, but comfort and entry access need checking. Do not assume the outside size equals the space available to stand.
Does a round shower give more space?
A rounded front leaves more room outside the curve than a square enclosure with the same nominal dimensions. It provides less room inside. Choose according to where your bathroom needs the space most.
Can I fit a 900 mm cubicle into an exact 900 mm gap?
Do not assume so. Check the actual model dimensions and the room needed for assembly, connections and later servicing. Get the proposed fit confirmed before ordering.
Are bigger Aeros showers step-free?
No. More width does not remove the raised entry. If step-free access is essential, discuss a suitable design with your building professional before selecting a shower.
